World Zoonoses Day Celebration by IAVPHS Fraternity across India
On the occasion of World Zoonoses Day 2026 (6th July 2026), members of the Indian Association of Veterinary Public Health Specialists (IAVPHS), of various veterinary institutes across India, organized a wide range of awareness and outreach activities to highlight the importance of zoonotic diseases and the need for their prevention and control. The activities were conducted under the One Health framework, emphasizing collaboration among veterinary, medical, environmental, and public health sectors. The celebrations included a wide range of awareness activities such as school and farmer outreach programmes, webinars, expert lectures, stakeholder interactions, public awareness campaigns, and student engagement programmes. Through lectures, quizzes, rallies, and interactive sessions, the initiatives promoted awareness on zoonotic diseases, food safety, biosecurity, antimicrobial resistance, responsible animal management, and the One Health approach, while encouraging community participation and intersectoral collaboration for zoonoses prevention and control. These activities were successfully organized by institutions including the Centre for One Health-GADVASU, KVAFSU, Kamdhenu University, SKUAST-Jammu, SKUAST-Kashmir, RAJUVAS, BHU, DUVASU, MAFSU, LUVAS, ICAR-IVRI, and GADVASU Rampura Phul and others, demonstrating the collective commitment of the IAVPHS network towards safeguarding both animal and human health.
Overall, the World Zoonoses Day-2026 celebrations reflected the strong commitment of the IAVPHS fraternity to enhance public awareness, strengthen community participation, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration for the prevention and control of zoonotic diseases. Through coordinated educational, outreach, and stakeholder engagement activities, the celebrations reinforced the importance of the One Health approach in addressing emerging public health challenges and promoting healthier communities across the country.
