The Department of Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology at the College of Veterinary Science (CVSc), Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, in collaboration with the Veterinary Clinical Complex, has organized a quiz competition and awareness camp focusing on zoonotic infections and the One Health approach. Nearly 70 students from the third, fourth and final year BVSc classes, along with postgraduate and PhD scholars, took part in the programme, which aimed to sharpen their knowledge of diseases that spread between animals and humans and to highlight their role in prevention.
The quiz, conducted for all participating batches, tested students’ understanding of key zoonotic pathogens, transmission routes, diagnosis and control strategies. Winners were awarded certificates of achievement, recognizing their performance and encouraging academic excellence in veterinary public health. Faculty members noted that the strong participation from both undergraduate and postgraduate students reflects growing interest in public health and One Health themes at the college.
As part of the awareness camp, an invited lecture was delivered by Dr. Rahul Narang, Dean, AIIMS Bibinagar, Hyderabad, an expert in bacterial zoonoses, public health laboratory strengthening and One Health initiatives. Dr. Narang shared his frontline experiences in managing zoonotic infections in clinical and public health settings, and discussed the practical importance of “One Health in action” — coordinated efforts by medical, veterinary and environmental sectors to prevent and control zoonotic diseases.
Dr. Sujata Singh from Veterinary Public Health, Hyderabad, who coordinated the event, said the combination of quiz and expert interaction was designed to make complex zoonotic issues engaging and memorable for students. She emphasized that such programmes are vital in preparing the next generation of veterinarians to work closely with human health professionals and contribute meaningfully to national One Health initiatives.
